Stump Grinding in Colorado
We grind stumps below grade using commercial-grade equipment, eliminating tripping hazards and letting you reclaim your yard.
What Our Stump Grinding Includes
- Grinding below grade. We go 6 to 8 inches below ground level by default, deep enough for resodding, replanting, or patio installation. We can go deeper on request.
- Cleanup of chips. By default we fill the hole with chips and rake the surface flat. Prefer everything hauled away? We do that too, usually at no extra cost.
- Root flare trimming. Surface roots radiating out from the stump are ground down to the same depth so nothing trips you or your mower.
- Protecting your yard. We lay protective mats on turf and use tarps around the work zone. Your grass and landscaping stay intact.
How It Works
- Quote visit or phone estimate. Tell us diameter, quantity, access, and soil type. We quote a firm flat rate.
- Mark and protect. On arrival, we confirm sprinklers, invisible fences, and utility markings with you.
- Grind. Our self-propelled commercial grinder reduces even large hardwood stumps in under an hour each.
- Restore. We rake, fill, and sweep. Your yard is ready for seed, sod, or a fresh plant.
Pricing
Most single stumps fall between $100 and $400 depending on diameter, species (hardwood takes longer than pine), and access (a backyard stump behind a tight gate costs more than a front-yard stump). Multi-stump jobs get a volume discount. Always quoted firm, always before we start.
Common Questions
Will grinding damage my sprinkler lines?
Not if you mark them. We pause and ask before grinding anywhere lines run within 12 inches of the stump. Unmarked lines are your responsibility under our terms.
Can I replant on a ground stump?
You can. The remaining chip fill is acidic and slow to decompose, so for a new tree we recommend hauling chips out and backfilling with fresh topsoil. Grass seed or sod goes down fine either way.
What about the roots under my lawn?
The large flare roots get ground with the stump. Smaller lateral roots decompose naturally over 2 to 4 years. They do not continue to grow once the stump is ground.
